Christian Friendships

Today I want to remind us of the importance of friendships -- more specifically Christian friendships -- which we all need. These relationships, founded on the proper things, will be a major contributor to our spiritual life -- both rooting out sin and living a life in greater union with Christ.
I quote today from Matthew Bingham’s book, A Heart Aflame For God: A Reformed Approach to Spiritual Formation:
“… especially in the case of the local church, one of its great glories is the way it unites people who would otherwise ignore or even oppose each other. Still, it does recognize the reality that some relationships with other Christians are more meaningful and significant in a person' s life than others. Some blossom into real friendships that spill out into coffee shops, playdates, and shared trips to the lake, while others never move beyond the mid-week Bible study. And that is okay: yes, we have a powerful, Spirit-wrought bond with all our brothers and sisters in Christ, but those individual relationships inevitably vary in their intimacy and extent.”
“… it behooves us to intentionally embrace the gift of Christian friendship, pushing ourselves to actively initiate, forge, and maintain godly relationships with others.”
So go out and “cultivate new friendships and invest in the ones we already have.”
Soli Deo Gloria
